It only takes a few moments to write a 10-15 word comment and that will go a long way to getting the most out of Social.

Put each day to bed.

Here’s today’s Marketing Tip from the Trail.

For a more peaceful approach to working, and to create some distance between your work day and time off, try this journaling technique.

At the end of each workday, take a few moments to put a pin on your day. Write down what went well. This could be your “best thing” for the day. Then write down what could have gone better or what’s getting in your way. Third, jot down the top three things you would like to accomplish or need to work on the following day.

This exercise will help you shut down your work mind so you can focus on your after-work life!

How much info do you collect from your audience?

It seems like a great idea to gather as much info as possible from every interaction but what you collect needs to be aligned with the value you are providing.

It’s best to ask for the bare minimum of info to improve your conversion rates. And only ask for phone numbers if ABSOLUTELY necessary.

This took me a couple of tries because it was cold and I had mush mouth but here’s today’s Marketing Tip from the Trail:

Your email list can be one of your most valuable assets.

If you aren’t actively leveraging and growing this asset, you could be missing out.

However, on most sites out there, the call-to-action is uncompelling. I usually see something like, “Sign up for our newsletter” as the hook.

No one wants another newsletter.

So swap out your CTA to something compelling that explains precisely the VALUE people will get when they trade their email with you.

Something like, “Get marketing tips and tricks delivered to your inbox weekly.”

That way people know why you need their email address and EXACTLY what they will receive in exchange.

Feeling "stuck" can be frustrating. And everyone feels stuck from time to time.

When you are experiencing that sensation of being stuck, sometimes a simple shift in perspective is all you need to provide your brain with a fresh look at your situation.

Certainly, merely trying to see things from a different point of view can be helpful – but this type of shift can be more easily said than done. So here's another way to trick your brain into seeing things from a different perspective.

Get physical with your change.

If you are able to move your setting, you provide your thinking with a new viewpoint. Simply go outside (or even just away from where you are currently experiencing that feeling of "stuck") to jostle your framing. Even physically turning to face a different direction in your space can achieve a similar effect.

So, the next time you are feeling stuck, change your physical perspective to experience a mental shift as well.

Have you optimized your site's 404 page?

If not, you are missing an opportunity to direct those who are "lost" on your site to something productive.

A 404 page is a default page that displays when someone mistypes a URL, is trying to access a page that no longer exists (for which you really should set up a 301 redirect, but that's a different tip video), or otherwise gets "off track" while navigating your site.

It's usually just a simple page that says something like, "404 error. Page not found."

But here's the trick... you can optimize your 404 page to provide guidance for those "lost" users to direct them to something of value and get them back on track.

Simply create your 404 page with helpful links to other parts of your site that can be of value. This could be a list of blog posts, something to download, or simply a link back to your homepage.

That's much better than a generic "You're lost," statement.

Do you encourage your audience to take a secondary action when they engage with you on your site?

If you don't, you are missing out on an opportunity.

See, when someone has taken action on your site, they are primed to take the next step. When we make decisions, our brains get fired up. So it's a perfect time to ask your audience to do something ELSE.

So, whenever someone has taken action on your site – whether filling out a contact form, signing up to download an eBook, or purchasing an item – give them something else to do.

The easiest way to do this is to create specific "thank you" pages to which your audience is sent once they complete a task. On these pages, give them the opportunity to do something else immediately. Make it EASY for them to share their experience with a friend, write a review, purchase another item, read a related blog post, etc. Just give them a NEXT STEP to take on their journey.

Have each of these pages be optimized to align with the initial action and reap the benefits of helping guide people on the next phase of their journey with your organization.
