We hear this all the time from our friends in the nonprofit world (and, sadly, many for-profit partners as well).
But here’s the deal: People still want to help.
We all get a LOT out of being philanthropic.
It helps us feel connected.
And powerful.
And like we are able to do something in the midst of what can feel like a hopeless situation.
So when people are unable to donate money because things are tight,
And in-person volunteer opportunities are challenging due to social distancing mandates,
How can your organization provide other ways to contribute?
Here are a few ideas:
- Create ways for people to boost your reach through social channels: Create shareable content and easy-to-post materials your enthusiasts can share with their networks.
- Ask your stakeholders to share their stories that mesh with your program’s mission: This is a great way to build up content you can share about the positive impacts your organization has made to further its mission.
- Come up with in-home opportunities to serve: Have your constituents help stuff envelopes, create physical kits to distribute once things get back to normal, create physical branded materials you can share. Get creative and get people with some spare time on their hands opportunities to help.
- Reach out personally to see how your enthusiasts are doing: There’s no better time to re-engage with your fans. Listen for opportunities. And let them know they are in your thoughts.
